Haubstadt, Indiana is in Gibson County, a part of the Evansville Metropolitan Area. Known initially as Haub’s Station, the town was established in 1855. The town was incorporated in 1913, named after Henry Haub, one of the early settlers who had built a stagecoach stop that was also a trading post and general store. Today approximately 1,600 people live in Haubstadt.
Homebuyers will find that this area is one of rich history. Above the store built by Haub was a dance hall, and later the entire building would be renamed The Log Inn, becoming well known as a restaurant. This restaurant is still in existence today, known as the oldest restaurant in Indiana. Another historic feature is the Town Hall, previously the Haubstadt State Bank. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
An important consideration for homebuyers is the importance Haubstadt residents place on community support. There is a strong tradition of friendly neighbors helping neighbors as the residents work together to plan for their future while preserving their past. They are also dedicated to providing opportunities for the youth of all ages to have a chance to enjoy their sporting skills. The Haubstadt Community Park has baseball and softball diamonds the youth can enjoy. There is also playground equipment for the younger kids and picnic areas and a shelter house for relaxing get-togethers. If racing is a favorite, a popular place to enjoy for residents and visitors alike is the Tri-State Speedway. The quarter-mile track is a dirt, high banked oval racetrack on Hwy 41.
Homebuyers will find ranch style homes and cottages in Haubstadt. There is also acreage available in Haubstadt for those who want to build. The students are served by the South Gibson School Corporation. Homebuyers who appreciate a small community that is dedicated to its youth, its history, and to building a future, will find Haubstadt a great place to consider in their search for a home.
