Newburgh, Indiana is a town in Warrick County, east of Evansville and a part of the Evansville Metropolitan Area. In 1850, it was a large river port between Cincinnati and New Orleans. Growth continued as it had become a popular area for families looking for newer housing close to Evansville. Newburgh faces the Ohio River on its southern boundaries and contains the Angel Mounds Historic Site, a Native American burial site. Newburgh is known for its historic downtown, a charming collection of antique shops, specialty stores, and quaint dining options along the riverfront. Many of the buildings have either been nominated for or have the potential of being nominated, to the National Register of Historic Places.
