Stay up to date on the Mount Auburn market
Mount Auburn, Evansville, Indiana is also known as Miller’s Hill. The area sits high on a hill north of Evansville’s West Side, dating back to the 1800s. The high elevation is a draw to homebuyers for the great views and cooler temperatures. History shows the Miller home was the first to be built on the hill, which is why it was known as Miller’s Hill. Around 1900, the house was sold as a summer home and given the nickname of Mount Auburn since Miller no longer lived there. About the same time, the Mount Auburn school was established in the neighborhood.
The scenic area was annexed into Evansville in 1952, and the neighborhood boundaries were named to be Maryland Street, Buchanan Road, and St. Joseph Avenue. Because of the magnificent views of both the Ohio River and Evansville, the area became a favorite spot for summer homes to be built. It has a sense of seclusion, a break from the bustle of Evansville below. Homebuyers will find the history of the area appealing, including the fact that the oldest buckeye tree in the state sits on this hill.
There is a real sense of civic pride in the west side of Evansville. Many organizations have been formed specifically to assure continued betterment of the area. Along West Franklin street you will find a variety of events that occur throughout the year that Mount Auburn residents can enjoy. These include varied entertainment, art, and events promoting business growth. Some of the most popular events include the Mardi Gras Bar Crawl, the Franklin Street Bazaar, and family movie nights on the Westside Library lawn.
